DRAYS (the restaurant)
You go downstairs if you want to it there. It is at the basement of the Barbary Coast Hotel. When you make it there do not go very well dressed because that place make you fell very self-conscious. Everybody in that place goes dressed like people in Spain wear to go to the beach but this time they are also drunk.
You have to cross the whole main room and then from the elevator you have to go straight and then turn right to get the lift. When you go down it is more like if you are going to a dangerous dive where sex drugs and rock and roll will be happening.
As soon as the door of the elevator opens the felling is very different, a bright light receives you and a nice lady greets you. You give your reservation name and you are taking to your table.
We were six and our table was in the middle of the room. As I was going to be the main speaker of the group an immediate panic attack went trough all my body. We were going to be in the middle of the place and we Spanish people talk really loud, the attack went as fast as it came first Americans are even louder than Spanish people and in Las Vegas and with a little bit of alcohol even louder, and second the place is perfect because there is a great balance between open space and intimacy. We talk loud from the very beginning because my mum is a little bit deaf and also because we are from Spain and after a little bit of alcohol and good company we show our pleasure by speaking loud.
When the waiter came to greet, as there was another panic attack, this time smaller, I had already accepted that it was going to be the last night of then here so I was going to do the job perfect.
Yes, we want wine; Pinot noir and water, Evian and we are going to need some time to decide what do we want to eat. But that was not true because five minutes later we knew and filet mignon was going to be the main character of this show. And in fact we ask for more than that dish but the piece of meat and the chocolate soufflé were the winners.
We ate fantastically well and we had a great time. It was a great cherry on the cake for the month my parents spent here.
Have fun. |
