Brassmonkey Bursary recipients Josie & Ugo

We’re excited to announce our Brassmonkey Bursary recipients Josie & Ugo who will attend our 3 week Clown Creation Scool in March 2020. Here’s what they had to say about securing their bursary places:

Josie

“I am over the moon to have been offered this bursary place. It will allow me to further explore creating my own work and build on the discoveries I have made through clowning, which otherwise I wouldn’t of been able to access. Being a northerner means it’s extra special to be able to travel down and come play with my fellow idiots and the Spymonkey team. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”

Ugo

“As an immigrant in Europe (coming from an ultra-conservative family from Latin America), poc, neurodiverse and queer identifying, more often than not i have wondered, despite my passion and will – and knowing where i come from , how possible was it really for me to keep furthering my education as an artist, and keep on performing and doing theatre. I feel very grateful and touched to have been offered the opportunity to join the school, and I am happy and admire Spymonkey for recognising the lack of diversity in theatre and the need of extra support among minority groups coming from disadvantaged backgrounds – as, despite my curiosity and interest, I wouldn’t have been able to join the school on my own without being offered the bursary. I hope others like me will be able to have the same opportunity in the future as the one I am having now – and for now I am proud of – how can i say it? – well:  to belong to and represent so many disadvantaged background categories!”
